NEW HEALTH TEST RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ACCREDITED BREEDERS

01-02-2010
The Kennel Club recently announced an update to the health test recommendations for Accredited Breeders of Bracchi Italiani.
From 1st January 2010 all Accredited Breeders of the Bracchi Italiani are recommended to carry out hip scoring, elbow scoring and eye testing prior to breeding.

This is great news for the breed generally and hopefully will separate the wheat from the chaffe in relation to breeders.  Of course, these tests have always been recommended for members of both the Bracco Italiano Society and Friends of the Bracco Italiano for the betterment of the breed.

This is a huge step forward in helping to ensure the healthy future of the Bracco Italiano in the UK and I'd like to personally thank everyone involved in helping this to become a reality.

I have always been a great believer in breeding only from fit and healthy dogs, with great conformation and temperament and have been concerned that this ethos has not always been followed.

Hats off to those people who have worked hard to make this a reality!!!  Well done!  It's great to see that individual concerns have been taken on board and acted upon.  It's easy to criticise, but you also have to give praise when praise is due!

I know that these health tests are recommendations at the current time but hopefully they will become embedded in every breeder's ethos when breeding our wonderful breed.

Health testing is the only way to know that the stock you are breeding from is sound.  Once you have the health test results then you can make an "informed" decision as to whether you will breed or not!
