Bazil

Bazil came into my life at 3 years old as a rescue dog.  He had lived with a family with hyperactive children who had abused him terribly.  He had a choke chain around his neck that had been placed on him as a puppy.  It had to be surgically removed.  He also arrived with practically no hair on his body.  He'd had a terrible start in life and the more I heard about his previous owners, the more I wanted to see them suffer the way he did.

Anybody who has ever lived with rescue dogs, or been involved in rehabilitating them, will realise the time and effort involved.  It took almost a year before Bazil would truly trust me and 3 years until he realised he was here to stay and was part of the family.

He has been transformed from a very frightened, psychologically disturbed boy into a dog that melts the heart of everybody he meets.  He's now so trusting but it's true to say he has never truly forgotten his bad start in life.  Living with me Bazil has had no pressure put upon him to do anything and he lives a very quiet life.  He loves his walks every day and especially loves his ball.  He's getting older now so I have to limit playing with the ball as he is starting to suffer from arthritis.  He's best friends with my elderly neighbour and will sit by her side for hours being stroked.

Bazil is the light of my life.  When Megan died Bazil was quite depressed for a while as she was his best "doggy" friends.  He's now adjusted to life without her - as have we all - but I'm sure like the rest of us she is never far from his thoughts!
